Jeff Hall Senior Softball Tournament Rules

For all sanctioned tournaments, the JH Senior Softball rules will apply
except where noted within this Rule Modification section
designed for Senior Play.

JHSS Tournament Format

  • For 40s and 50s: 3 Game Guarantee No Pool Play; All other classifications play 2 pool games then start a double elimination bracket.
  • Batter Starts with a 1-1 count with no foul "Exception to rule if batter hits screen on 3rd strike then batter gets extra pitch"
  • After 70 minutes expires, teams will finish that inning and play one more
  • Unlimited courtesy runner - No Rabbit - once per inning as a runner
  • Last inning, unlimited runs are allowed
  • Flip Flop rule will be only used once a team is 10 runs or more ahead
  • Safety base will be used when available by park
  • Sliding or diving into a base is NOT an out
  • Scoring plate will be used. If runner touches the home plate mat, the runner is out.
  • Defensive team must always use home plate mat. If there is an attempt to tag a runner out, the runner is automatically safe.
  • Home plate commitment line will be used. Once a runner is past the commitment line, the runner is out by touching the home plate mat with the ball.
  • Strike zone mat will be used. It is a strike if the ball lands on the home plate mat.
  • Mat specs are 35″ long x 21″ wide.
  • Each registered team will receive 6 balls upon check in. Teams can purchase additional balls at the field
  • All Teams are required to be ready to start 30 minutes prior to game time after 1st game is complete


REFUND POLICY

  • Entry fees are due by each event's entry deadline. There are no refunds once entry deadline has passed. In the event of any game or event cancellation or postponement, you will be credited for a future JHSS event.
  • If your team drops out of the event after entry deadline, you may be eligible for credits towards a future JHSS event. If your team drops out after schedules are released, you forfeit your entry fee.

Pitching Rules

  • Pitching arch will be minimum of 6 ft and a maximum of 12 ft from the ground. No faking of pitch will be allowed.
  • A pitching screen will be team optional. Team must furnish their own net.
  • The pitching screen can not exceed 7' tall and 3'6" wide. Reference: Bownet model The Bodyguard.
  • If a pitching screen is used, the pitcher must be behind screen when batter makes contact with the ball.
  • 1 warning will be given to the pitcher before he is removed from the position for the rest of the game – no ejection.
  • If no screen is used, the pitcher must wear a full mask.
  • A 10-foot box will be allowed to be used for the pitcher.
  • Any batted ball hitting the screen will be a dead ball and a foul.
  • The pitching screen must be in contact with the pitching rubber.

Defensive play

  • 1st Base Safety Bag
  • On a force out the defender is required to tag the white bag. The runner is required to tag the red bag.
  • Blocking the runners path to the red bag is considered interference and the runner is awarded the bag.
  • If ball deflects foul on the 1st base side the red bag and white bag will be swapped and previous rules will apply but reversed. The runner is required to tag the white bag and the defensive player will be required to tag the red bag.
  • Home Plate Safety Plate
  • All plays at home plate are considered a forced out. If the runner has not gone beyond the commit line, then normal rules will be in play.
  • The defender may stand on or tag any part of home plate mat. If the runner is beyond the commit line or the runner is required to acquire home, the runner will be considered retired (out) if the defender possess the ball.
  • Once the runner is beyond the commit line, the defensive player may not tag the runner. If a tag attempt is made, the runner will be considered safe.

equalizer rules

  • Equalizer will be 5 runs per game with 1 run an inning for the first 5 innings OR an extra fielder for all ages.
  • Game will be played by the Lower class home run rules.
  • No extra fielder will be allowed in the World tournaments.

Roster : player(s) outside of bordering states

  • Major Plus no limit on where players come from.
  • Major will be allowed 2 players from outside bordering states.
  • AAA will be allowed 1 player from outside bordering states.

team classifications

  • 3 Classifications for each age group: Major Plus, Major, and AAA
  • 6 Age Divisions: 40, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70+
  • You are allowed to have a max of 3 players from the classification level above the team's current level.

MIKE MACENKO RULE

Before the game a team has the right to designate a batter in the line up that can hit as many home runs as they can without any of his home runs counting towards the team limit allowed. If the HR batter is walked intentionally or unintentionally, the next batter that hits a home run will not count against the team total until the HR batter comes up to bat again.
